I
Hate You, Don't Leave Me : Understanding the Borderline Personality
Uk
Can
by
Jerold J. Kreisman (Author), Hal Straus (Author). Still the BPD
"Bible". Still correct on its description of the disorder. Warning to
sufferers, this book was written almost 40 years ago and states there is no
treatment for the BPD. That is absolutely false, there are many treatments known
now. One Dr. has stated the easiest way to get a sufferer of the BPD suicidal
was to give them this book. But as an early description, this book still has
merit.

A Bright Red Scream : Self-Mutilation and the Language of Pain
Uk
Can
by Marilee Strong (A reader from Seattle says "It's interesting that all of a sudden there are several books on self-injury. But I've read them all (strong personal interest) and this is really THE book. Strong really knows her stuff, both the "inside the heads" view of self-injurers and even making sense of how the brain seems to work that helps to explain self-injury. The experiences of people she writes about are so real, and so vivid. And caring! Maybe its because Strong is not a therapist and therefore doesn't have any "blinders" on the way therapists unfortunately often do. Sometimes even when therapists treat people with self-injury (and even write about it), they really don't seem to have a deep level of empathy. Strong touched my soul with her book)!"

Stop Walking on Eggshells: Taking Your Life Back When Someone You Care About Has Borderline Personality Disorder
Uk
Can
by Paul T. Mason, Randi Kreger, Larry J. Siever
(This the only book written of its kind that I am aware of, and it is not only very well written, but I believe will help many families that are being hurt by borderline behavior. This book will assist families in understanding their loved one's behavior and thinking. It will help them understand what is going on inside the borderline when sometimes all the family can see is chaos. I believe this book will empower many families. It is important to remember that borderlines are not bad people and they (we) do not set out to hurt the very ones we love, but rather their cognitive distortions and chaotic behavior of course hurt those around them severely. This book should help you find your way).

Uk
Can
by Randi Kreger, James Paul Shirley
"This book is an absolute life-saver when dealing with the BP in your life, and how you interact with them. I never realised how completely enraged my BP got me because it was all piling up into problems elsewhere, until doing some of the exercises in here. Now I know where my buttons are, and when my BP is trying to hit them, and different ways that I can deal with this without making the situation worse in the long run. This book is a must for anyone living with a BP, whatever the age."

Skills Training Manual for
Treating Borderline Personality Disorder Uk
Can
by Marsha M. Linehan Ph.D. (Dialectical Behavior Therapy
(DBT) Manual. This form of treatment according to research, is excellent for treating BPD behaviors. I strongly recommend this manual). "Linehan is a brilliant, compassionate, and rigorous therapist for borderline patients. What's more, and what is most unusual for master therapists, she has proven its efficacy in published randomized, controlled trials. What is fortuitous for borderline patients and their therapists is that she has painstakingly crafted a wise book and user-friendly manual well grounded in principle, detailed in its strategies, and exportable to a wide range of treatment settings."

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders)
Uk
Can
by Marsha M. Linehan Ph.D. (This book is a companion to go with the above book. "The book is also an encyclopedia of all problems ever encountered with borderline patients, offering usually well thought-out therapeutic strategies....I would warmly recommend these books to anyone who is involved in treating borderline patients or is interested in innovative cognitive-behavioral approaches..." "While this book is primarily for therapists treating this disorder, it can also be very educational for and quite comforting to family members of people with this disorder. People with BPD can be incredibly upsetting to family members, and not being able to understand why someone is like this can be very frustrating. To read a very detailed explanation of the disorder can be an incredible relief. While the writing style is laced with Psychological jargon (as it should be) a layperson can still understand most all of the concepts in the book. I highly recommend it."

Surviving a Borderline Parent: How to Heal Your Childhood Wounds & Build Trust, Boundaries, and Self-Esteem
Uk
Can
by Kimberlee Roth, Freda B., Ph.D. Friedman, Randi Kreger "Although relatively common, Borderline Personality Disorder, or BPD, is often overlooked or misdiagnosed by therapists and clinicians and denied by those who suffer from it.
Symptoms of this tragic problem include unpredictability, violence and uncontrollable anger, deep depression and self-abuse. Parents with BPD are often unable to provide for the basic physical and emotional needs of their children. In an ironic and painful role reversal, BPD parents can actually raise children to be their caretakers. They may burden even very young children with adult responsibilities. They tend to demand unreasonable levels of emotional and material support from those least able to provide it. Plagued by irrational fears and anxieties, BPD parents often transfer feelings of self-hatred onto their children. salting the wounds inflicted by their insatiable need with constant denigration and abuse.
If you were raised by a BPD parent, your childhood was a volatile and painful time. This book, the first written specifically for children of borderline parents, offers step-by-step guidance to understanding and overcoming the lasting effects of being raised by a person suffering from this disorder. Learn what psychological criteria are necessary for a BPD diagnosis and identify the specific characteristics your parent presents. Discover specific coping strategies for dealing with issues common to children of borderline parents: low self-esteem, lack of trust, guilt, and hypersensitivity. Make the major decision whether to confront your parent about his or her condition."

Borderline
Personality Disorder: The Latest Assessment & Treatment Strategies
Uk
Can
by Melanie A. Dean "The book is very clear
and to-the-point. It provides very important information without going too much
into useless details (like silly dramatic stories of very extreme cases I read
in many other books that do not apply to me) Each chapter has a very clear, concise
summary and repeats definitions used in the text. What I found most useful is
that the author provides comparison of different therapies available to-date
based on scientific research, not her opinion allowing me to make my own choice.
Having read this book, I know that my next step should be looking for DBT
therapy with emphasis on cognitive schema-based approach. I also, found out that
I should avoid not-so-helpful supportive therapy used with other disorders. The
only drawback of this book, is that the author did not provide information of
how to access appropriate therapies."
