Life at the Border: Understanding and Recovering from the Borderline Personality Disorder  Uk  Can by Leland M. Heller, M.D. (Highly recommended. Brings to light new information that the BPD is a medical disorder that can be treated. This was in fact the very first book that allowed me to see the BPD for what it is - a medical disorder and how to treat it. Dr. Heller discussed what BPD really is and displays much compassion for people with this disorder. He discusses neurological abnormalities in the BPD - eeg findings, visual problems, etc. He discusses psychiatric symptoms and medications. For the first time, while reading his book, I realized there was hope. His book is a a must read not only for the borderline but the for the families and the clinicians as well). "Explains for the layman - with or without the BPD - what it's like to live with the borderline personality disorder, and how to recover. Includes explanations of biology, medications, therapy, and other diagnoses. An extensive bibliography and glossary are included. Life at the Border was placed on the recommended reading list by the National Institute of Mental Health and is a reference book at NIMH."

The Borderline Personality : Vision and Healing  Uk  Can  by Nathan Schwartz-Salant (A reader from Knoxville, TN says "This book, written by a Jungian therapist, has given me almost all of the words and concepts I have always needed to express the terrible inner darkness, formlessness, and tumult of suffering from BPD. Therapy and meds were a godsend, but they were only palliatives. There seemed no hope of penetrating to the very source of this overwhelming disorder, of understanding it, and perhaps even curing myself of it someday.

Mr. (Dr.?) Schwartz-Salant's compassion, clarity, analysis, and ideas have given me not only hope, but an entirely new (to me) way of looking at the problem, and substantive directions in which to work toward resolution, both on my own and with the few therapists who can/should attempt to work with borderlines.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and I hope it helps others as much as it has helped me."

imbroglio rising to the challenges of the borderline personality disorder by janice cauwelsImbroglio : Rising to the Challenges of Borderline Personality Disorder  Uk  Can  by Janice M. Cauwels (Large, comprehensive book. Strongly recommended! Includes many different schools of thought about what the BPD is, it's etiology (cause) and different modes of treatment. A must read if you want to understand the full picture of BPD. It does not offer one opinion but attempts to show you all current opinions and what they are based on). "This book is probably a good introduction to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) for someone who is first reading about this disorder. Personally, I was looking for something a little more rigorous and authoritative. The author admits to having no special expertise in the subject, but has interviewed experts and others to arrive at her understanding of BPD. If you're looking for a top-notch, clear and understandable discussion of BPD."

An Adult Child's Guide to What's 'Normal'  Uk  Can  by John C. Friel, Linda Friel "(A practical guide to begin dealing with the pain and trauma of being raised in a dysfunctional family. Your parents may not have been able to teach you lifeskills but it is not too late to learn them now. This book will help the reader to learn how to respond to the challenges, problems and traps that they are faced with daily." "Finally! A book that gives us what to do right instead of just what's wrong. As a counselor I highly recommend it to anyone who has had any kind of dysfunction in their family)." >An Adult Child's Guide to What's 'Normal' by John C. Biological Unhappiness  Uk  Can  by Leland M. Heller, Foreword by myself  (I felt very fortunate to be asked to write the foreword to this book as the teachings of Dr. Heller have literally changed my life. This book includes new information about the BPD, not only in diagnosing biological causes of unhappiness - BPD, depression, bipolar disorder, cyclothymia, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, attention deficit disorder, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, obsessive compulsive personality disorder, etc. - but in their treatment as well. Highly recommended). "Biological Unhappiness explains the biology and recovery process for the most common "mental illnesses" that are causing so many of today's societal problems. These "illnesses" are very treatable, and need (and deserve) destigmatization. The public needs to understand the facts and the true nature of what's really going on. Biological Unhappiness is written for the lay person."

Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You ThinkMind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think  Uk  Can  by Dennis Greenberger, Ph.D., Christine A. Padesky, Ph.D.  (Cognitive therapy workbook which therapists recommend their clients use. Cognitive therapy is highly recommended for the treatment of BPD. The workbook "teaches you to identify your thoughts, moods, behaviors, and physical reactions in small situations as well as during major events in your life. You learn to test the meaning and usefulness of various thoughts you have during the day and to change the thinking patterns that keep you locked into dysfunctional moods, behaviors, or relationship interactions. In addition, you learn how to make changes in your life when your thoughts are alerting you to problems that need to be solved." I recommend this workbook. I think cognitive therapy is an excellent tool in recovering from the BPD). "A hands-on workbook for therapy clients suffering from depression, panic attacks, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, and relationship problems, using case examples and written exercises to help clients understand and use cognitive therapy methods. Includes sample worksheets and blank worksheets for reproduction. Can be used as a framework for treatment, an adjunct to treatment, or to pinpoint specific skills development."
