crisis hotline

A program of the Mental Health Sanctuary.

Hello, my name is Susan E. Stanley and I'd like to tell you about a wonderful new program that was started a short while ago as a service to people on the internet.

It is called the "Haven of Hope Sanctuary Hotline". It is comprised of a list of carefully screened volunteers who give life-saving advice and/or an empathetic ear to people that are in crisis or contemplating suicide. Most of these volunteers have been diagnosed with a mental disorder themselves, making them especially attuned to the needs of people who are experiencing a severe crisis or possible suicide attempt. Many of these volunteers have, at one time or another, been exactly where these people in need are at right now.

Each volunteer provides a brief bio of themselves, along with their phone number and/or email address so that people who come onto the site can decide who they would feel most comfortable contacting. Volunteers' phone numbers are screened before being posted onto the site so that no one's address can ever be obtained. If a volunteer feels uncomfortable listing their phone number, they can still help by being an email-only volunteer.

I have received applications for volunteers from many different states and also from a few in other countries. So, no matter where you live, you may be able to offer life-saving advice and/or referrals to mental health organizations, to people in your part of the world. You may never know when this service could be a new-chance-at-life for someone YOU love.

If you would like to volunteer or would like more information about this program please feel free to contact me at: hotline@mhsanctuary.com.  I look forward to hearing from you!
