BPD and Psychopathic Personality
I was diagnosed with BPD over five years ago. I have had no treatment. Is there treatment and is it possible to misdiagnosed. I recently found out my father had a psychopathic personality. Is there a common thread to these diseases, and should i get some help. Is it possible to have two disorders at once. I'm so confused.
That you are asking the question is the first step. It is of course, as will all illnesses, possible to be misdiagnosed. I cannot provide you with a diagnosis, but if you were to describe what you feel to me, I might be able to tell if I agree or disagree and possibly provide some context. As for your father, "psychopathic personality" is very general, it's like saying "bread" -- there are many different types and varieties. Again, you would have to describe your experience of him to me in order for me to get some perspective. And, finally, yes, it is possible to be (what we call) Dual Diagnosed. It is more likely, though, that someone suffers from a single disorder that manifests features of another.
