BPD and Buddhism
I've been diagnosed with BPD over 20 years ago. My temper is pretty much under control now thanks to my awakening during my studies of the Buddha Dharma. Now this email is not meant to be a religious one, but rather a question as to the nature of this illness. I still get mood swings; however, the difference is that I don't react to my moodiness now. In a sense, I don't react anymore to these negative impulses..
Is it possible that BPD is due to a chemical imbalance rather than as the result of one's upbringing. I have read on some sites that
Seratonin might have something to do with it. This was interesting to me because I also suffer from Seasonal Disorder. I guess what I want to know is if there is any way to bring up my
Seratonin levels in a natural way.
The underlying antecedents for BPD appear to lie with a predisposition to depression and anxiety. Those characteristics would be chemical in nature. Anger is a function of depression, most often. Your meditation practice is what is helping with the anger, as it impacts upon the depression.
