4 year old with Bipolar
I am coming to you as a very worried mom. My son's (will be 4 in May) pediatrician told us he is pretty sure he is BiPolar. I freaked. I know he's right. I am very familiar with the disorder and should have seen it. My question is...How do I control him??? He is unmedicated and I do not know how to deal with his episodes. He freaks out at the drop of a hat and has these fits that have made my neighbor almost call the police on me. Do you have any advise for us?
I am extremely suspect of a pediatrician making a psychiatric diagnosis of a personality disorder in such a young child. What you should do is get the child formally evaluated by a child psychiatrist and go from there. There are a thousand things that could be contributing to his behavior that are more likely than a Bi-polar disorder.
