Ask the Therapist

Mother With BPD

My mother exhibits all of the classic traits of BPD.  The rages, the constant lying, manipulation and self righteous indignation because she always sees herself as the victim.  She has pushed everyone out of her life.  We sent her to a therapist and asked her to tell the therapist we suspected she had BPD.  When the therapist tried working with her about it, she of course stopped seeing the therapist.  Is there any hope for someone who won't admit they have a problem?  I haven't spoken to her in years but I have gotten disturbing info from neighbors etc. so I know she is not getting better.  My father passed away several years ago, she wouldn't hear it from friends, cousins, or a therapist (she isn't speaking to any of them now either).  Is there anyone she could listen to?  Would leaving a stack of books on BPD at her doorstep help?

You can't help someone who does not wish to be helped. Persons who exhibit a BPD profile are most difficult to get to come around, as they believe that their "version" of reality is quite real.
