My name is Lisa and I am a 35 year old female.
I'm a single parent and I have 3 teens with ADD. One has a ADD, a cognitive impairment, and a short term memory issue, one has ADD, OCD and Tourettes, and one has ADD.
Although I have never been Dx with ADD, I'm sure I have it, the symptoms are all there, but I manage just fine. I see no
point in being Dx at my age unless I needed help as in meds.
I am a social worker who has done some work with families regarding ADD, mostly looking at coping skills, strategies, and future goals.
I am also very involved with the online Yahoo ADD Chat room.
I would be willing to talk to other parents who have teenagers living at home. Mostly I am familiar with ADD, the OCD and ODD are recent diagnoses.
I only speak English and I live in Canada.
Dealing with ADD is a daily struggle, we have good days and bad, but I try to focus on the positive and ride out the
negative, knowing it will not last long. My children used to be on Ritalin
and Ritalin did wonders for my children during their elementary school years. They and I have
decided no more meds, that is a personal choice. We have also done a lot of family
counseling and strategic planning with teachers at school.
