Hi, I am a 26 year old male who was diagnosed at the age of 19 (1999) with the bipolar disorder. At the time I was a pitcher in college, everything was rolling--good grades, nice girlfriend, great friends, playing ball, and then bam......I turned into a non sleeper, too much to say, spending too much money, and also evolved into the moodiest person; hence bipolar. Since then I have been in and out of three hospitals which were less than a month stays (thank God) I got back in to a full time job, then graduated from Penn State, then came a better job at an insurance company in Philly. Last month I bought a house and got engaged to the sweetheart who stuck with me like my angel: she is my angel. A lot developed in my life, a lot for the good. But as you well know, people with our condition can be very unstable people. My one secret to the success that I have achieved is that you have to get enough sleep (at least 7 hours a night), eat healthy foods (an occasional cheesesteak doesn't hurt), and by no and I mean no means should you drink alcohol or smoke you know.....My second secret is that of a spiritual one. When I was in my first Psych ward I was visited by a man who appeared to be an angel (could have been all the drugs they had me on but hey, I believed in the Lord before I was sick, and if I want to believe he sent me an angel, well, God bless me. I now where a cross a round my neck at all times and feel fully confident that all things for me in the future will be less bumpy than the super off road I had to travel in the past. He never gives ya more than you can handle right?. I have plenty of stories to tell that are similar to that, and my ears are always open if anyone has concerns.
