My name is Brigitte and I am a 20+ year old Female.
I would like to be able to take emails from people with questions and concerns, people who are dealing with Bipolar Disorder, whether it be themsleves, spouses, friends or family memebers. My husband is Bipolar, he has many other factors from his life that also contributed to the illness. I am going to school to become a psychiatrist, so this would be an excellent opportunity for me. I love helping people and offering help, since I experience almsot first hand what the illness is like. My husband tells me everything that goes through his mind, what hes thinking, how much hes thinking, just everything. I have been able to help him on many occasions, he now calls me his "Angel" because I have saved his life so many times. He is much better now, on a very good track in life, which is possible for anyone with Bipolar Disorder.
One of my best friend's (who was BP) committed suicide just 2 years ago, and ever since then I have made it my personal goal to help as many people dealing with BP as I can, sometimes just a little glimmer of hope goes a long way. Understanding that people who speak of suicide, are usually calling out for help is a big step. People must not brush those cries for help off.
As a family member or friend, it is much easier to understand your loved one if you understand the illness. Once you know what Bipolar Disorder is and how it affects people, you will be able to have a better understanding of your loved one, and be able to help more as well, if needed.
I started to get really involved with the whole psychiatry of things when I was about 15 years of age. Six of my friends and I witnessed a woman committ suicide. (i guess you could say we just eneded up at the wrong place at the wrong time) and ever since then really, I have wanted to understand what could have possible been going through her head, and I needed to know the reasons behind her actions. Which is why I am doing what I am doing now.
